Girl Takes Ring Off Granny’s Hand at Her Funeral, Wakes up at Night and Sees Silhouette in Her Room – Story of the Day

Bella takes her grandmother's ring off her finger at her funeral as a souvenir to remember her by. One night, she wakes up to discover an intruder in her room. The person is unwilling to leave until they find what they came for.

The sudden screeching of tires on asphalt in the dead of night jolted Bella from sleep and off the bed she slept on.

The loud and unexpected noise sounded too close for comfort.

She had been halfway across dreamland, trying to construct rainbow-colored castles in the sky, only to be tossed back to reality the second her back hit the floor of her room.

She couldn't help but jerk in fear and huddle close to the bottom of her bed from the multiple sounds that came from downstairs.

There was the loud slamming of car doors followed by running feet, and the silence of the night made it all echo louder in her ears.

By then, her parents were already awake, and she could hear them running downstairs with a sense of urgency in their steps.

She was still afraid, but her curiosity about what was happening was much greater than her fear.

She got on her feet and made her way out of her room, tiptoeing toward the stairs. She could already hear people speaking in low tones.

"We didn't expect it to happen—"

"I still can't believe it."

"—It all seems like a dream."

Frustrated at being unable to hear the full story of whatever was happening, thirteen-year-old Bella began to descend the stairs courageously.

She was surprised to see a few of her relatives standing there with somber expressions.

But the moment she knew how bad things were was when she saw her mother sway, about to fall to the ground with her father barely catching her in time.

Bella continued walking down the stairs with a worried look as she heard her mother sob heavily in her father's arms.

She felt slightly uneasy to know the reason why an adult would openly burst into tears.

A few seconds later, standing behind her father, she tried listening to what the rest of the adults were saying, but it was nothing but vague words of comfort she couldn't gather any information from.

"Jane, it'll be fine. We weren't expecting it to happen, but it did, and we must accept it," she heard her Uncle Sam say as he held a piece of dry tissue to his eyes.

"Maybe this is God's will and time for her to go," Aunt Margaret added, with red swollen eyes showing how long she must have spent crying.

"Who—" Bella opened her mouth to ask who left and where she went to make everyone so sad, but one look from George, her father, and a slight shake of his head, and she knew not to.

My mother's relatives stayed for a while before they finally left the same way they arrived, like they were being chased by rabid dogs.

Her mum didn't stop crying as she watched her parents close the door and head to their rooms, signaling her to do the same.

"The-there's" something fishy about this. She-she was alive and in good health, I—" she heard her mum whisper as she tried to wipe off the tears on her face.

Bella stood at the top of the stairs, trying to eavesdrop a little more, only to find out who exactly her mother was talking about and hear them slam the door behind them.

Back in her bed, the noises were gone, and everything was back to how it was, but Bella still found it difficult to fall asleep.

She didn't know who made her mother cry and why she cried, but regardless of what it was, she had a feeling that it wasn't going to be something good.

It wasn't until the following day that she heard that her grandmother, Grandma Julia, was dead.

Bella cried incessantly for days.

The last time she saw her grandma was only a few days ago, and she looked healthy and agile. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her.

She had tried asking her mother about the cause of her death, but Jane, her mother, was even more unwilling to talk about it.

The funeral took place the same week, and while Bella had a sad, gloomy expression during the wake, most of her relatives had a different disposition.

"Bella! Is that you? You look so cute!" She heard one of her aunties cry out behind her, trying to chat with her, but Bella ignored her and continued walking away.

She wasn't the first. There had been two other aunties and one uncle who thought right during the funeral proceedings was the best time to joyfully reunite with their little niece.

Bella fidgeted with the black gown she had on, and just watching some of the relatives chat and mingle happily with each other over drinks made her very angry.

The funeral was to celebrate the life Grandma lived, but most of them just seemed happier that she was gone.

She even heard whispers that most of them had traveled from afar and only came to physically listen to the reading of Grandma Julia's will.

Unlike most of them, the only reason Bella agreed to wear the uncomfortably tight black dress her mother ordered was so she could show up to say her last goodbyes to her grandmother.

The wake was held in Grandma Julia's house and was pretty short.

Right after the in-house wake was a small get-together in the garden where more food and drinks had been prepared.

After everyone was done putting roses beside her casket, it didn't take long for them to move outside to the garden, including Bella's parents.

On the other hand, Bella chose to remain inside the house, staring blankly in front of her.

About two steps in front of her was the casket, and staring at it, she still found it hard to believe that she would never again see her Grandma smile at her.

Her eyes were still slightly red and swollen from previous tears, and her head was heavy, but none of that could stop her from moving closer to the casket.

"This must be a prank," Bella sniffed, with a sad smile on her face.

"Grandmother Julia, you'll soon wake up laughing, won't you?" She cried, feeling more despair the longer she talked to her grandmother, who continued to lie there.

"We promised we'd do lots of interesting things together, and yet, you didn't even wait until my birthday," Bella said in a voice that sounded like she blamed her grandma for dying.

It was clear that there was no way her grandma would return to the land of the living, a fact Bella quickly realized she would have to accept.

"I-I'm going to miss you," she sniffed, trying to hold back more tears from streaming down her face.

She was the only one there, yet the thought of someone walking in on her to catch her crying like a child wasn't something she wanted.

She was still young but hated the pitiful looks she had seen the adults give some of her younger cousins.

"Goodbye," Bella whispered, leaning closer to the casket.

After speaking, she was just about to turn around and head to the garden when she suddenly spotted her grandmother's glass ring on her finger.

It was her favorite ring, the one she rarely took off, and it was placed right at the edge of her finger.

It was almost like someone removing it had suddenly been interrupted and had to stop.

At first, Bella turned to leave, thinking it was something she would probably like to be buried with.

Only to turn around to face the casket the moment she recalled that the glass ring was the exact one her grandma had promised to give her.

Gently, she reached out to take it, knowing that her grandmother had most likely been wearing it when she died since she never took it off.

She always talked about how much she cherished it, although it was just a simple ring, one her husband had given her before he died.

Clearly, the only reason someone had placed it there without taking it away was that the band looked rusty and old, apart from the shiny glass stone.

After placing the ring safely in the pocket of her dress, Bella glanced back and took one last look at the open casket of her grandmother before she finally walked out of the room.

She walked towards the entrance to the open garden where the rest of the family members were, only to see two people walking right on the same path towards her.

It was Uncle Sam, one of her mother's brothers and Bella's least favorite uncle. Walking beside him was a taller man she had never seen before.

She was yet to get to where he was when she noticed the piercing gaze he sent her way as she moved to the side, intending to pass beside them.

Instead, she was shocked to see him block her path, with his gaze fixed on both her hands, which she had clenched into the small pockets of her dress.

"Did you take something!?" he asked in a deep voice with a nasty frown as he moved closer to her.

"She's just a little girl; she wouldn't dare," the taller man said from where he stood with a threatening look that looked even more sinister than the one on Uncle Sam's face.

"Bella!" Uncle Sam snapped at her again, opening his mouth to say more, but Bella saw no reason to listen.

Hearing the loud shout directed at her, Bella didn't wait to hear more as she bolted past him straight towards her mother without looking back.

It was only after she got to the crowded garden close to where her mother stood with a group of relatives that she dared to look back, relieved to see that he didn't continue to chase her.

Uncle Sam was her mother's younger brother, but she had heard enough gossip about him to know he was the family's black sheep.

He was always involved in shady things, and even when he was around, his personality was so bad that most family members didn't want to be around him.

He's not a nice person, she concluded, walking closer to where her mother was seated but not close enough to have to join in the conversation.

Instead, she moved to sit in a corner of the garden by herself, which was secluded enough to prevent people from coming over to greet her.

There she sat in a daze, recalling all her good and fond memories of her grandmother.

Living in the same neighborhood meant sometimes she spent more time with her grandma than her parents.

It helped that Grandma Julia lived all by herself, which meant that she was always welcome and could even spend days at a stretch with her.

Bella was still lost in her world, eating the cookies she had picked on her way to her seat when unexpectedly, her ears caught the low sound of someone murmuring from a distance.

There were many bushes behind her, and the reason why her presence could be overlooked entirely.

"I didn't find it in the casket. I even turned it over to search, but it wasn't there."

Bella held her mouth with both palms to not gasp from the shock and outrageousness of what she just heard.

The voice sounded deep and strange, but no matter how hard she tried to link the voice to anyone she knew, she couldn't.

She was still trying to figure it out when she heard a completely different voice, one she needed to strain her ears to hear.

"I already sent two men masquerading as cleaners in. They're searching the study and all the other rooms just in case the old woman has more," another voice said, one that she could have sworn she had heard before.

Isn't that—she thought, but the thought was only half-formed when she suddenly heard loud sirens, jumping up to see big police cars parked in front of her house.

What's going on? Why is the police here? Bella wondered, about to move closer to where her mother was when a scream tore through the air.

The overall shock and fear on everyone's" face was immediate as they all watched the police run straight into the house.

"Bella," Jane, her mum, yelled as she ran towards her, grabbing her hand and holding her close to her chest.

Bella was confused and understood that she needed to wait patiently by her mum's side, but that didn't stop her from asking questions.

"Mum! What's going on?" Bella asked her mother, but her mum's attention was elsewhere as she scanned the environment for George, her husband.

The hired cooks and workers also rushed out of the house while all the relatives who came for the funeral stood outside the entrance, waiting for the police to come out.

Everyone was still waiting in the garden with fearful anticipation when they suddenly heard the loud sound of breaking glass as two grown men jumped out the window into the garden.

They were dressed in overalls and looked like one of the workers hired to clean and work on the house.

For Bella, it was a scene entirely out of an action-packed movie as she watched them run away the second their feet touched the floor, with one of them limping slightly in pain as he ran.

The police ran after them as everyone watched with their mouths wide open, whispering and asking the same questions among themselves.

"Who were they?"

"What were they doing in the house?"

"Why were the police chasing them?"

It took a while before the police came back, but instead of coming back with the people they chased, they came back empty-handed, sweating and panting.

They all had solemn expressions on their faces, one akin to disappointment, as they began to explain what was going on.

"Someone called about spotting two thieves on the premises. We were around the corner and felt confident that we could catch them."

"Unfortunately, they escaped," the female officer beside him continued in a more relaxed fashion compared to her male partner.

He had a slightly angry expression, which showed that he took his inability to catch the thieves more personally.

"We don't know why they targeted the house and the study, but we promise to investigate and get to the bottom of it," the male officer spoke again in an intense and passionate tone.

"Shouldn't we mention that it might be an inside job? We should at least tell them to be careful," she whispered in a tone too loud to be called a whisper.

All she got was a mild glare in return as he signaled for her to look around. It was a funeral and the worst place for relatives to start suspecting each other.

But even though almost everyone heard her words, which was most likely her aim, no one appeared flustered.

Bella, too, wasn't surprised since it was public knowledge that her grandmother wasn't extraordinarily wealthy. She only owned three houses left to her by her husband and nothing more.

She couldn't understand what could have prompted the thieves to raid her grandma's study in the first place.

There's nothing special to be found there, Bella thought, knowing that if there was anyone who had scoured every inch of her grandma's house, it was her.

After saying a few more words and asking a couple of more questions, the kind policemen and women left.

Uncle Jerry had been the one who found the thieves and called the police, and even though he was slightly injured in his ankle, he still had a kind expression on his face.

"It's just a scratch. You all should continue with the party. I'll get it bandaged up, and I'll join you," he told everyone, not wanting the funeral to be affected any more than it already was.

Still, the funeral party ended much faster than it was supposed to, as everyone tried to chip in and comfort him since it seemed like his leg had been dislocated.

Everyone but Uncle Sam tried to help as he stood by the side with a huge frown, looking around with an indifferent gaze.

Standing beside him was his friend, whom Bella had previously seen with him but was convinced was just as crooked as Uncle Sam from his cold expression.

I can't be sure, but they might be the ones I heard talking behind the bushes. She wondered as she also stood to the side, observing them with a suspicious look.

Soon, her grandmother's casket was taken away, and her parents also went along, but Bella was made to stay behind at Grandma Julia's house instead of being allowed to go with them.

Not all of her mother's relatives went along, and some chose to stay behind, including Uncle Sam, who sat with his strange friend.

"How much do you think it is from the pictures?"

"About ten million dollars, but like I said, I can't be sure unless I see the real thing in person."

Bella listened to everything being said around her but remained quiet while intermittently peeking at Uncle Sam from where she sat, watching him aggressively whisper to his friend.

It was obvious that he wasn't in a good mood, even from the expressions he showed on his face.

She could only hear snippets of what they kept whispering amongst themselves, but Bella could tell that it wasn't good just from what she could make out of what they were saying.

It didn't help that the reading of Grandma's Will was supposed to take place the second everyone was back from the ground burial where they had gone.

Three hours later, all the relatives were back, alongside an older man dressed in a black suit. Bella could tell he was important from how he carried himself and the car he got out of.

Quickly, Bella moved away from the window she had been peeking out of to sit properly on the sofa as her parents walked in.

"Mr. Peters, would you like something to drink before you begin," Aunt Margaret asked with a touch of impatience in her tone, barely seconds after he came into the house.

She wasn't the only one. Looking around, it was clear to Bella that apart from her parents, all her mum's siblings couldn't wait for the will to be read.

Maybe Uncle Jerry is an exception, Bella thought, as her gaze shifted from Uncle Sam, Aunt Margaret, to Aunt Lisa, whose eyes seemed a little desperate as they stared at Mr. Peter, the executor.

They weren't the only ones present; there were older cousins and even relatives from late Grandpa Dan's family, with hopes that Grandma Julia would leave something for her husband's family.

"No drinks. Some warm water might be nice," Mr. Peter responded with a light smile, knowing how intense such things can get, especially the second he was done reading.

The water was quickly placed beside him, and everyone settled down to listen attentively to every word he was about to read from the piece of paper in his hand.

Bella, too, had a twinkle of curiosity in her eyes, but all that changed the longer Mr. Peter began to speak.

"...Her house, the one she lived in, is to be given to Jane, her second daughter," Mr. Peter said, and Bella shrugged, as it was no surprise to her.

Her parents had moved into the same neighborhood as her grandmother to ensure they could spend more time with her after her husband died. It was to be expected.

However, what was completely unexpected was Mr. Peter's next words.

"Her second house, which is a mansion, is to be sold and the proceeds distributed equally among all her five children in order of Jerry, Jane, Sam, Margaret, and Lisa."

This was not expected since it quickly became clear that Jane, Bella's mother, was getting more than the rest.

Vague frowns could be seen across their faces, and instead of paying attention to them, Bella moved all her attention to Mr. Peter, curious to know what he would say next.

"For the final property under her name, she has decided to put it in trust for all her grandchildren until they are all past the age of eighteen. That's when the contents will be revealed," Mr. Peter had barely finished when chaos ensued.

"What? What the hell is that supposed to mean? What about us that don't have any children!" Uncle Sam yelled, jumping to his feet with a very pissed-off expression.

"What are we supposed to do?"

Even Uncle Jerry nodded softly from where he stood. Gone was the gentle smile that could always be found on his face as deep lines covered the center of his forehead.

"I agree. Does that mean that if we don't have children of our own, we would not be entitled to the trust, or the trust would be given to us instead?" he said, calmly asking Mr. Peter for clarification.

"The content and details of the trust would only be revealed when all her grandchildren are past eighteen. Nothing more," Mr. Peter replied, grabbing his cup to drink a little more water before he got on his feet.

He had learned from previous times that the moment he was done, the faster he got out, the better it would be for him.

Unfortunately, he wasn't fast enough as Uncle Sam spoke next in a serious tone, one that surprised everyone there.

"If the properties have been shared, does that include our mother's personal items?" he asked, ignoring the nasty looks everyone sent his way.

He was a man and had no use for her personal items, meaning he simply asked to sell them.

He had previously summarized all the clauses in the document he held into three parts. Still, after being asked a question, he scanned the sheet again before giving the appropriate answer.

"There's no mention of her personal effects. I guess any of her children can have—" but before Mr. Peter could finish, Uncle Sam announced in a loud voice.

"Since you all are getting way more than me, all of our mother's jewelry belongs to me. Her necklaces, her bracelets, and especially her ring," his voice booming across the room to the annoyance of everyone else.

"What do you mean? You're going to sell it. It's best if we distribute it to the female members of the family instead," Aunt Margaret responded in a tone just as loud as the one he had used.

"Does it have that much value? We only just buried her; the last thing we should be doing right now is fighting among ourselves," Uncle Jerry chipped in, getting on his feet and trying to move between Aunt Margaret and Uncle Sam.

By this time, Mr. Peter had already made his way to the door, not seeing a reason to say goodbye after he made sure to leave his card behind.

This was good because, barely seconds after he left, Aunt Lisa, the youngest, said something that made the already tense atmosphere completely explode.

"Is this because you think Dan, our father, left our mother with diamonds? I heard you whispering with your friend when I passed by the kitchen," Aunt Lisa said to the shock of everyone there.

It wasn't unimaginable. Dan, Julia's husband, had been a successful diamond merchant, so getting one or two for his wife was possible even if they had never seen one on their mother.

"Wha-what nonsense!" Uncle Sam shouted louder, but it was too late to cover up as his tone wasn't as confident as before.

Aunt Lisa was the youngest and known for telling the blunt and undiluted truth.

"I said that I saw you talking with your friend that Mother had diamonds," she repeated, louder.

"That's the only reason you're trying to ensure you get them all for yourself!" Lisa yelled, irritated at Sam for trying to label her a liar.

"Is that true? Diamonds, huh? Lisa, have you ever seen our mother wearing one?" Uncle Jerry asked, firing off questions one after the other with an interested look.

"There is no evidence! She's talking nonsense," But Uncle Sam had barely finished speaking when Aunt Lisa began walking upstairs to Grandma Julia's room.

Before anyone knew it, Aunt Margaret ran past both Aunt Lisa and Uncle Sam.

Uncle Jerry got on his feet to join, but before Bella could continue to watch the situation unfold, Jane, her mother, stepped in front of her to block her view.

"We're going home," she told Bella, who hurriedly got to her feet, following her parents as they stepped out the door.

"That was intense," George, her father, whispered to her mother, who shook her head with a look of clear disappointment on her face.

"Who doesn't want diamonds? The only reason I'm not running after them is because I know my mother enough to know that she doesn't have any diamonds," Jane sighed.

"All her jewelry is the usual type, even her engagement ring is a cheap glass ring," she continued as they all got into the car.

George drove straight home, and all tossed the events of the will reading to the back of their minds.

Jane was convinced that if neither of them found anything special, they would all share what could be shared and put the entire event behind them.

Bella was surprised to discover her mum was wrong when three of them showed up at their doorstep the following day.

Jane, her mother, welcomed them like usual, and Bella, wanting nothing to do with them, especially with Uncle Sam sitting there, got to her feet to head to her room.

But she had only just gotten up when one of them called her name before she could take a single step.

"Bella, We're here to ask you a question," Aunt Margaret softly began, but Bella, wary of her tone, turned and walked closer to where her mum was seated.

"Don't tell me all of you are still hung up on this mysterious diamond you're all searching for?" Jane, Bella's mother, asked in a slightly annoyed tone as she looked at every one of them.

Even Bella, for the first time, considered showing them the glass ring with her as proof that it was nothing but a glass ring with a rusted metal band.

"We're just here to ask Bella if she has any of Grandma Julia's rings, especially the one she always had on her," Uncle Sam impatiently snapped, threateningly looking at Bella, who instantly changed her mind.

Seeing Uncle Sam's disposition, all her thoughts about showing them her grandma's ring flew out the window.

If I show them what's stopping him from taking it away, even if it's glass, Bella wondered, seeing how aggressive he already was.

"Bella has nothing with her," Jane, her mother, instantly responded, looking at Bella, who was too surprised at being put on the spot to say a thing.

Uncle Jerry smiled and leaned forward in his seat, speaking softly to Bella, who was already shaking her head about to respond.

"We just want to see it. I promise that if it's nothing, we'll give it right back to you,"

Bella couldn't help but hesitate as she considered showing Uncle Jerry. He was friendly and easygoing, and she trusted him to do what he said.

"Speak! Did you steal it, or didn't you?" Uncle Sam impatiently asked, annoyed at the silence that ensued after Jerry spoke.

Whatever hesitation Bella felt instantly disappeared as she opened her mouth to speak.

"I didn't steal any ring," she replied, shaking her head as tears slowly filled her eyes as she looked at her mother.

"I-I'm not a thief," She cried, and that was all it took for Jane to chase all her siblings out of her house that very moment.

"You heard her. There's no ring with d," Jane said, locking the door the second they all left, but their voices could still be heard as they stood talking by the door.

"It's obvious she's hiding something from the way she hesitated," Uncle Sam shouted, furious at being chased out the door without getting anything for his troubles.

"Yes, it seemed like she was hiding something," Aunt Margaret agreed, speaking in a lower tone as she looked back at Jane's house.

"Are we sure it's a diamond, even if she has it?" Jerry curiously asked as he walked away, shocked to hear Sam unexpectedly admit it.

"Yes, I'm sure. I once saw the documents for the ring, and it's authentic. It's worth millions of dollars," Sam grumbled under his breath as he walked away.

Quickly, the other two followed after him, curious to hear more.

The day passed quickly after that, and when night fell, Bella found it extremely difficult to sleep yet again.

She placed her grandma's glass ring under her pillow and whispered stories about how silly her uncles and aunties were for thinking she had diamonds and fighting over them.

Eventually, she fell asleep.

Hours went by in blissful silence until Bella suddenly jerked awake.

At first, she was confused about why she would suddenly wake up in the dead of the night.

Thinking it was related to bathroom matters, she moved to get off the bed and switch on the light when she suddenly heard silent, eerie footsteps approaching her door.

It was too quiet, a silence that could only belong to someone who wasn't supposed to be in the house.

Bella was terrified; she wanted to scream, but at the same time, she was too scared to do so.

Even when her door gently slid open and she heard the person come in, Bella continued to pretend to be fast asleep.

Peeping from under her blankets, Bella was shocked to see the silhouette of a person who had no resemblance whatsoever to her parents.

She hurriedly snapped her eyes closed the second she saw the person turn on a low lamp, wondering what they could be looking for in her room.

I'll scream if they touch me, Bella decided as she tightened her fists against her chest, doing her best to appear fast asleep.

Seconds later, she heard her drawers open one after the other as the intruder began going through everything inside.

Her wardrobes weren't spared as she could hear the low sounds of her clothes being tossed to the ground one after the other.

The longer it continued, the more difficult it was for Bella to pretend to be asleep, especially when her heart thumped wildly in her chest.

Also, the more the person looked through her things, the more impatient the intruder got and the more noise they made.

Unexpectedly, Bella heard all the noise in her room cease.

The person was still there; worse, she could feel his gaze shift from the room to land directly on her.

She ground her teeth tightly together as she heard them move closer to her bed until she could no longer bear the anxiety she felt.

Bella jumped off the bed, screaming as loud as her lungs allowed her, even before her legs landed on the ground.

A few seconds later, the door of the room swung open.

Neither the intruder nor Bella had enough time to react as George, Bella's dad, ran into the room right at the strange person beside her bed.

A struggle in the dark ensued, one that George, Bella's dad, luckily won even before Bella could turn on the lights to reveal a masked stranger.

"I've called the police," Jane, Bella's mom, said in a voice that sounded entirely out of breath as she stepped into the room to grab Bella.

"Are you okay? Did the thief hurt you? What did he do?" Jane cried, asking questions while thoroughly inspecting every inch of her body.

"I'm okay, mother. He didn't touch me. I think he was looking for money instead," Bella replied. But on the inside, she knew it was most definitely about the ring...

Her dad continued to sit on the thief, not getting up until the police officers finally arrived and he was handed over to them.

The first thing they did after putting him in cuffs was to try and remove the mask on his face.

It's Uncle Sam. I can't think of anyone else who would be shameless enough to try and steal the ring, Bella thought, convinced that she was right.

The intruder had gone straight into her room, and even after seeing it was a little girl's room, they continued searching through it.

It's Uncle Sam, I'm sure of it. Bella thought, staring at the masked face and impatient for the mask to be ripped off.

But when it was, Bella and her parents were shocked to see the face behind the mask.

"Uncle Jerry!" Bella yelled in shock, especially since he was the last person she expected it to be.

"Brother!" Jane, Bella's mom, cried out with a perplexed look.

Everyone wondered why he would come to their house to steal, and only George wasn't too dazed to speak.

"Even if you wanted to rob us, you've been to our house. How did you not know that was Bella's room?" George asked in a furious tone.

"Sam, why? If you wanted money, all you had to do was ask, and I would have given you!" Jane yelled at him, staring at her brother, who didn't seem remorseful.

"Money? I don't want your money. I want Grandma's diamond ring, one I'm sure is with Bella," Jerry finally opened his mouth to reply in an aggravated tone.

Gone was the friendly and easy-going Uncle Bella knew.

"Sam showed me the papers. Do you know how much it is? Ten million dollars," Jerry continued with a greedy look in his eye as he stared at Bella, wishing he had been able to get it.

"I saw the ring in her casket, which means someone took it. After we asked Bella this afternoon and she hesitated, I was sure it was with her."

He wanted to say more, but the police couldn't stay any longer and took him away.

More investigations were done, and it was later discovered that Sam had been the one to hire the two thieves in his grandma's study to find the ring.

"I just hired them to find the diamond, nothing more," he grumbled under his breath as he was taken away.

Although Grandma Julia's death was unexpected, everyone collectively believed the brothers couldn't have had a hand in her death regardless of how greedy they were.

The day after, Bella didn't hesitate to bring the glass ring to her parents.

She found it unbelievable that the ring was a diamond ring, not a glass one like she thought.

Her parents instantly took it to an expert to evaluate its value, and they were shocked to realize that Sam was right and that it was indeed a real diamond.

On getting home, Bella didn't mind giving the ring to her parents, knowing they might want to sell it for the money, but unexpectedly, they insisted that she keep it.

"Even when you didn't know its value, you still valued it. I'm sure Grandma would want you to keep it," Jane, her mother, told her.

Bella beamed with joy, promising always to keep it safe.

"I'll cherish it like a treasure," she said, knowing that she would still keep it safe even if it was just made of glass.
